— It’s hard to believe the UW-Milford quarterback Brett Hagel is playing college football right now.
The Green Bay, Wis., native is on the verge of becoming the first college quarterback to play in the NFL since Josh McCown in 2007.
He’s also poised to become the first since Jimbo Fisher in 2006 to graduate from the UW.
The UW-Fargo quarterback is in his fourth year at the school, where he started his first seven games in his rookie season.
He has completed 67.7 percent of his passes for 1,937 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions, including two in UW’s last four games.
Hagel has made two career starts in the Big Ten, and his career passing average is 5.56, good for ninth in the conference.
He ranks fourth in the country with 2,066 passing yards and 20 touchdowns.
He’s also second in the league in passing touchdowns.
UW-Madison’s Taylor Heinicke and Northwestern’s Evan Mathis are also in the top 10 in passing yards per game.
The Packers have three quarterbacks currently playing in the preseason.
They also have three NFL draft picks — offensive lineman Jack Crawford, defensive end Joey Bosa and defensive end Myles Garrett.
Hagen is also in line for a scholarship.
He will join UW-Green Bay for the preseason opener on Saturday against Michigan State.
He is a third-year graduate transfer from the school.
Green Bay has three other quarterbacks in its active roster, including freshman Zach Hocker, who is in the middle of a five-game suspension and who has a 1.85 grade-point average.
He started last season and threw for 1.856 yards and six touchdowns.
